Supporting Athletes with Autism Spectrum Disorder Workshop by CoachSG
29 October 2026
How can sports coaches create training sessions where athletes with autism spectrum disorder feel included, understood and motivated to build their skills? Join us for a highly interactive 3-hour workshop, "Supporting Athletes with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Small Shifts, Big Wins", designed for sports coaches in Singapore.
Event Description:
Moving beyond lecture-style learning, the workshop uses practical activities, case discussions and coaching scenarios to explore the strengths, needs and experiences of autistic athletes. Participants will examine how autism-related differences in communication, executive functioning and sensory processing may affect participation, learning and performance in sports settings.
Coaches will be introduced to three practical frameworks:
The Behaviour Iceberg: To look beyond what is immediately visible.
Person-Environment-Task/Activity: To identify barriers and adjust the fit between the athlete, environment and activity.
S-P-I-N -> Strengths, Preferences, Interests and Needs: To build individualised, strengths-based support.
The workshop begins with the end in mind: creating sports environments that are inclusive, accessible, fun and purposeful, while continuing to build confidence, independence and sport-specific skills.
