Special Olympics Singapore Basketball 3x3 Competition

Warm greetings from Special Olympics Singapore (SOSG).

We are pleased to invite your school/centre to participate in the upcoming Special Olympics Singapore Basketball 3x3 Competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

As basketball was not included in the Special Olympics National Games 2025, SOSG is organising this standalone competition to provide meaningful competitive opportunities for athletes who train and participate actively in basketball. This event ensures that athletes are still able to participate in competition, apply their skills in a game setting, and remain motivated in their sporting journey despite the absence of basketball at the National Games.

Participating in local competitions will also open up opportunities for them to participate in regional and the world arena. Together let’s give our athletes every opportunity to grow and develop in sports.

Event Details (Tentative):
📅 Date: 18 April 2026 or 25 April 2026 (TBC)
⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (TBC)
📍 Venue: To be confirmed

Eligibility & Competition Readiness:
This competition is intended for athletes who are competition-ready, meaning they are able to play basketball game which means they should be familiar with basic game rules, team play, and match situations. This event is not a skills challenge; therefore, athletes should be able to participate meaningfully in a game-based competition format.

 Age Groups:
- 13 to 15 years
- 16 to 21 years
- 22 years & above
 
Team Composition & Registration Guidelines:
- Each team must comprise 4 (minimum) to 5 (maximum) athletes.
- Each school/centre may register a maximum of 2 teams.
- A separate registration form should be submitted for each team.
- Closing Date for Registration: 13 February 2026, Friday
- Skills Assessment Scores Submission: 1 April 2026, Wednesday
 
Once again, through this competition, SOSG also hopes to observe and encourage athletes who demonstrate potential for further development in basketball. Athletes identified may be considered for future training opportunities or selection for Special Olympics Regional or World Games, subject to further assessment and eligibility criteria. Do note however that participation in this competition does not guarantee selection.

Above all, the focus of this event remains on participation, enjoyment in line with Special Olympics’ mission of empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities through sport.
