Gym Orientation for Persons with Disabilities
This pilot initiative was introduced to allow PwDs and caregivers to familiarise themselves with ActiveSG gyms with the guidance and support of an ActiveSG fitness instructor.
The ActiveSG Gym Orientation for Persons with Disabilities ("PwDs") is a pilot initiative to introduce selected inclusive ActiveSG gyms to the PwD community.
The 30-45 minute orientation session aims to:
Introduce participants to the gym layout and amenities, including accessible toilets and lift access points.
Familiarise participants with the gym equipment, including the specialised machines (HUR machines) available at ActiveSG inclusive gyms.
Help PwDs and their caregivers build confidence in using the gym independently so they can return to use ActiveSG gyms regularly.
Pilot Locations and Dates
The gym orientation is currently offered every first and third Wednesday of the month at the following ActiveSG gyms:
East: Tampines ActiveSG Gym at Our Tampines Hub
West: Jurong Lake Gardens ActiveSG Gym

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the gym orientation session?
The gym orientation session itself is free of charge. However, standard gym entry fees apply as per ActiveSG rates. Please check the ActiveSG website for current gym entry pricing.
If you're bringing a caregiver, they can accompany you at no additional cost under the Caregiver Scheme. Please request for the QR code to scan upon entry.
What do I need to bring/wear for the session?
Compulsory
Appropriate workout clothes
Covered shoes (If you are unable to because of medical reasons, please let us know in the Pre-Gym Orientation Survey or via email)
Towel
Personal medication (if applicable)
Assistive devices (if applicable)
Optional (but recommended)
Water bottle
Change of clothes
I am unable to wear covered shoes due to my medical condition. Can I wear other types of footwear?
Yes, alternative footwear may be considered. However, please inform us in advance by indicating this in the Pre-Gym Orientation Survey Form or by reaching out to us via email, so that we can update the gym staff accordingly.
Please note that if we are not informed beforehand, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to enter the gym on the day of your orientation session.
Can my caregiver attend the session?
Yes, caregivers are welcome to attend the orientation session with you at no additional cost. Your caregiver can accompany you throughout the entire session.
When you arrive for your orientation, please approach the ActiveSG Sport Champions at the facility. They will assist with complimentary entry for your caregiver. Your caregiver will need to scan a QR code before accessing the gym.
Please let us know when registering if you'll be bringing a caregiver in the Pre-gym Orientation Survey Form so we can coordinate with the facility and ensure they're better prepared to assist you both upon arrival.
Can I bring a friend along for my session?
Yes, you may bring a friend along, depending on their capacity and how your friend will be participating:
If your friend is also a PwD, they are strongly encouraged to sign up for the session as a participant separately. This is to ensure the PwD-to-fitness instructor ratio does not exceed 3:1 for the safety and comfort of all participants.
If your friend is not a PwD but wishes to join the session, they will need to purchase a gym entry ticket. Please indicate that they will be joining you in the Pre-Gym Orientation Survey Form so that we can check if the session is able to accommodate them. Their participation is subject to availability and assessed on a case-by-case basis.
If your friend is accompanying you as a caregiver, they may enter the gym free of charge. Should your caregiver wish to use the gym equipment and workout after the session, they will need to purchase a valid gym pass.
Will I get a personalised training plan after the session?
No, a personalised training plan will not be provided. The gym orientation is designed to help you familiarise yourself with the equipment and the layout of the gym, including the locations of the toilets, water coolers, and other amenities.
That said, the HUR machines have pre-set workouts that you can follow. You are welcome to approach the fitness instructors, who can advise you on suitable exercise plans in the HUR system based on your needs and goals.
Can I continue to exercise after the gym orientation session?
Yes, you can. As you have already paid for gym entry, you are welcome to continue exercising after the orientation session.
If your caregiver wishes to exercise after the session, they will need to purchase a separate gym entry ticket.
How many gym orientation sessions do I need to attend?
You only need to attend one gym orientation session, as it covers everything you need to know. To ensure fair access for all, please avoid booking multiple sessions or registering on behalf of friends.
If you wish to attend the session again for a refresher, please let us know via email.
Are there accessible toilets and showers at the gym?
Yes, all gym locations in this pilot have accessible toilets and showers. The fitness instructors will walk you through their locations during your gym orientation session. If you intend to use the showers, do remember to bring a change of clothes and an additional towel to dry yourself.
